This summer, Science Explorers had been trying to answer a question we never thought we would have to answer. How can we safely host summer programs in the midst of a pandemic?
There was a lot to consider. In the end, we decided that ultimately for the safety of our campers and staff, we will be foregoing in-person summer camps this year. We have all seen that the situation is evolving daily, and in-person programming could be in the near future. However, for now we wanted to focus on ways to bring STEM learning to children in a way that is not only safe but engaging.
We have been working hard to develop quality programs that fit the needs of your family. With schools closing unexpectedly in March, students have had to transition to a virtual classroom. We understand this has come with its challenges, and we are hopeful that our hands-on programming will provide a different structure that can still be educational, and most importantly, FUN!
We recently ran a pilot program of our virtual camps. We wanted to see if this new format could deliver on the same quality programs we have been producing for the last 20 years.
The results were AMAZING! Our classroom of kiddos gave our virtual camp RAVE REVIEWS, and the parents agreed!
Here are some features that make our virtual programs different:
- All of our programming is hands-on. This keeps kiddos engaged, and even in a virtual format, it demonstrates experiential learning.
- We give easy-to-follow instruction! We offer 2 formats for our programs. Our Virtual Summer Camps offer a trained and experienced LIVE Instructor, and our DIY Bundles give you the option of following our detailed instructional worksheets OR you can watch our pre-recorded videos at your own pace. Both formats offer your kiddos top-notch teaching combined with activities to reinforce what they are learning.
- Science is FUN! Kiddos get to create, experiment, and be a REAL scientist! We hand-picked the best lessons to make sure that our campers love learning.
- This program is FLEXIBLE. We know summertime is busy and that parents have their hands full. Even if you sign up for a scheduled camp, our pre-recorded instructional videos mean that you can have a backup plan!
- Sick of screen time? We get it. That is why we developed our DIY Summer Bundles. With detailed instructions included PLUS access to our pre-recorded videos, you have the freedom to take breaks from a screen and complete the lessons at your own pace, even completely unplugged from electronics.
- It’s all-inclusive! Aside from some very basic materials, we send you everything you need to complete your experiments. Our campers may need things like water, scissors, paper, etc., but we want to make it easy for everyone to participate! We will include a list of any materials that will not be provided during camp just to make sure everyone is prepared.

Virtual Summer Camps
These programs will model our traditional camp on a virtual platform! Each camp will run Monday-Friday and are half-day programs. You can select an AM (9:00-11:30) or PM (1:00-3:30) option. Lessons will be led by a LIVE Instructor via Zoom! Kiddos will learn STEM concepts and reinforce these concepts by creating fun, hands-on activities and experiments. We will mail materials directly to you so your child can follow along. Have siblings? No problem! They will each need to purchase a kit, but they can both attend on 1 screen! Afraid you might miss a day, or need a break? No problem! We provide links to pre-recorded videos, so you can catch up on anything you missed. These camps run each week from July 6 th to August 10 th !
DIY Summer Bundles
We have 3 awesome topics to choose from! These bundles come with materials for 10 amazing STEM lessons, detailed instructions, and access to our pre-recorded videos so you can follow along at your own pace! They are also available in an abbreviated 5 lesson pack if you want to give it a try. This option is perfect for families that can’t commit to scheduled screen time, but still want to incorporate STEM learning into their summer!
