Partners – STEM Programs Grant Funding

We are partnering with schools and community organizations nationwide to provide programming that aligns with the parameters of their grant funding. State standards and research-based practices are central to Science Explorers lessons — students just think it’s fun! We can help customize an after-school program, classroom enrichment, community outreach, and/or camp program that will fit your needs. Our synchronous and asynchronous options are part of the many flexible solutions we have developed for our partners.

How Does Grant Funding for Science Programs Work?

Grant funding for science programs is a process where schools and other organizations seek financial support from sources such as the government or foundations. Before submitting the grant, the school or organization will identify specific needs, like enhancing science education or providing additional student resources such as equipment.

Then, the school will write a grant proposal outlining its objectives, how much money it needs, and how the grant will benefit students. Once the school’s proposal receives approval, they will obtain the funds and must use them as outlined in the proposal. The school will then report to the funding source on how it used the money and the outcome for greater accountability and transparency.

Why Are Science Education Grants Essential for Schools?

Science education grants are an essential source of STEM program funding for schools for many reasons:

  • Resource enhancement: Grants can provide the funds schools need to create a more effective learning environment for STEM subjects.
  • Program development: Grant funding allows schools to develop and implement science programs that would otherwise be impossible with limited budgets.
  • Equity and access: Many schools rely on grants to create educational equity to ensure all students have access to STEM programs.
  • Professional development: Besides helping the students, grants can provide development opportunities for teachers to enhance skills and improve learning.
  • Family engagement: Many grants provide the necessary funds to increase family engagement for an improved support network.
  • Flexibility in funding: STEM education funding allows schools to request funds for specific science materials or programs, which provides greater spending flexibility.
  • Long-term sustainability: Successful grant-funded science projects can attract additional funding from other sources, helping schools create more sustainable programs over time.

How Can Grants Benefit Students?

STEM grants for elementary schools can benefit students in many different ways, such as:

  • Provides greater access to essential resources to help students learn science in and out of the classroom.
  • Enriches curriculum and offers opportunities for children to explore their interests in STEM.
  • Creates additional support resources for underserved students to bridge any gaps in their STEM education.
  • Allows opportunities for students to engage in their community through after-school STEM events or activities.

Academic Recovery: How do we address lost learning?

School administrators, communities, and families often face multifaceted challenges in mitigating the educational, social, and emotional impact of COVID-19. A cross-disciplinary strategy will be essential to our national campaign to reclaim lost learning. You already know research shows STEM improves reading comprehension, math skills, and science foundations and engages higher-order thinking.

Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers

This program supports the creation of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children, particularly students who attend high-poverty and low-performing schools. The program helps students meet state and local student standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and math; offers students a broad array of enrichment activities that can complement their regular academic programs; and offers literacy and other educational services to the families of participating children.
